Last night we had the honor of working with Release.  Release is a student group at North Central University that is working to end human trafficking in the twin cities.  Release is doing great things in the twin cities; they are forming partner ships and networking beyond their four walls of NCU.  We are so proud to know them.  If you are an NCU student and want to get involved please contact with them through their Facebook page NCU Release.

Release did a showing of the powerful documentary called Nefarious: Merchant of Souls.  We were all so excited to see a huge classroom packed with students wanting to know more about this issue and how they can be involved in their community.  To be honest there was not a dry eye in the room by the end of the movie, this movie is not at all for the faint of heart, it is emotional, raw and very real.

Some of the questions I ask myself while watching this film are:

How can we not be moved when we see our brothers and sisters in Christ speaking words of such despair?

How can we not be moved when Minnesota has so few beds to accommodate the amount of victims that need aftercare?

Afterward Terrence was able to speak into the issue and provide a broader education outside the documentary.  We loved the Q & A and the amazing questions the students brought to light.  We saw a generation that is HUNGRY to see an end to human trafficking.  Afterward we were able to share about what we are doing with FREE International and talked about opportunities in the future for them to be involved.

“Depriving someone of their liberty, exploiting them, and trading them as commodities for profit are serious human rights violations. Trafficking in human beings cannot be tolerated in any form, be it in Europe or anywhere else in the world.” — Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs

If you would be interested in hosting a showing of the film Nefarious we would love to help you organize this.  It is a great way to open the door for the conversation to begin.  Once our eyes have been opened this global crime, we can never say we didn’t know.
